Memory Lane Wednesday

Photobucket

The idea behind Memory Lane Wednesday (Circle of Life), is to pick a picture that you have taken in within the past week, describe it, and make the picture forever a memory.

The picture below is from Super Bowl Sunday (2009). We watched the game, enjoyed Papa Murphy's pizza, and officiated four rambunctous children (about as proficient as the actual officials of the game) with our dear friends, the Savages.

Memories were definitely made; i.e. Mr. Chris doing his football dance, feeding the children salt&pepper popcorn, the fact that we purchased enough pizza for the entire block, Frank-o getting his fingers smashed in the door by the door-slammer, Brayden. Good times had by all!!

Laughter Lives Tuesday

Laughter LivesThis post is part of "Laughter Lives! Tuesday" on the Riggs Family Blog. Check our their blog to read everyone else's "Laughter Lives!" posts.

This week's topic: Funny things that have happened at church or a public event

Buck-a-roo will be four next month. The following story is from about a year ago....

We were at mass....the 0730 am mass; you know, the one where the church is primarily occupied with senior citizens and you can here a pin drop in the sanctuary at all times because the choir is not present, the sancutary is less crowded, and our elders are worshiping in complete silence.

Going to mass with, just turned, 2 & 3 year olds is quite a daunting task. It's a contant battle of shushing, rocking, entertaining, juicing, cheerio-ing, coloring and more shushing.

During the homily (sermon for all non-Catholics), Daddy Buck had scolded, disciplined, and forewarned Buck-a-roo for the last time and when he again acted out....Daddy Buck plucked him from underneath the pew and headed towards the vestibule area of the church, all the while Buck-a-roo is exclaiming at the top of his lungs in the "quiet as a cemetary on a cold, dark, winter's night" sanctuary

"DON'T SPANK ME DADDY! DON'T BEAT ME DADDY! PLEASE, PLEASE NO! DON'T SPANK ME DADDY!"

{as if}

Needless to say, Daddy Buck and Buck-a-roo never returned to Mass and Frank-o and I made an early exit in an attempt to avoid the glares, snarls, laughter, humiliation that would follow when church was dismissed.

Hot off the press...

I wanted you to know about this publication that I am a part of called Serious.Life Magazine. They just published the February issue today, and our blog will be listed in their Featured Blog Directory. It’s a very high quality magazine… you’ll really like it.

The magazine includes a lot of great content from bloggers you’ll appreciate, as well as great features and photos. The magazine is owned and published by a family who have seven kids, three adopted, one of which has Leukemia (www.riggsfamilyblog.com). Seeing as I have frequent contact with children who are diagnosed with leukemia in my work at the hospital, these people are near and dear to me.

The magazine donates many of ads to charities and ministries. Besides great articles on interesting people, there is a lot about family, adoption, personal finance, spiritual life, humor… all sorts of “life” topics.

Again, the subscription is free, and I know you’ll enjoy the magazine, so take a minute to check it out and sign up to get future issues. www.seriouslifemagazine.com

i heart faces ~ Week 4

This week's theme is....The Eyes Have It!
Here's my entry for this week...

This picture was taken during the late summer when he was sporting a nice tan as well as large, aquamarine eyes.

Once again, it happens to be another picture of Frank-o. His eyes are a much brighter shade of blue than Buck-a-roo's and he tends to hold them wide open in pictures, whereas Buck-a-roo tends to squint more. Okay, so I am defending the fact that I have entered a picture of Frank-o for the past two weeks straight, not necessary!

Be sure to visit i heart faces to view all the entries for this week...

"Not Me!" Monday

This week's "Not Me!" Monday post is jam-packed with picture-accompaniment, so let's get right to it...

I WAS NOT the gleeful, surprised recipient of yet another dozen (make that, double dozen) roses from my husband earlier this week.

This IS NOT my kitchen floor last Thursday evening following outdoor playtime, snacktime, and dinnertime on the very same day that my housekeeper had swept, vacuumed, and mopped the floors just a mere 8 hours earlier.

That being said, I AM NOT the only obsessive, compulsive, neat, clean house freak, female species in my home amongst three rambunctious, nonchalant, forgetful, grind your feet in the mud and then tromps through the house, male species. To that end, I DID NOT decide that it was time for my 2 and 3 year old boys to learn how to help in the cleaning of the house as evidenced by the pictures below.

I DO NOT feel a little guilty, as if I have been playing favorites on this blog because Frank-o has been the recipient of many recent postings, especially those containing pictures. Buck-a-roo is going through that phase in life where every picture he takes, he insists on posing in a silly, cheesy, orchestrated manner and Frank-o is just so darn innocent, mischievous, and carefree that it makes for great photography.

Frank-o DID NOT bring me this glob of diarrhea-colored Play-doh Play-doh creation on Saturday and joyfully exclaimed, "Look, Mommy, it's you...I made you!"

It WAS NOT a bittersweet moment for me, when my MIL took Buck-a-roo to the movies on Saturday for his first time ever to a movie theatre. I DID NOT tear up at the fact that it was the first 'first' that I was not partaking in with one of my boys. And, I DID NOT insist upon snapping a terribly uncentered, poor angled, out of focus picture as I drove off.

As Frank-o and I dined at Chick-fil-A on Saturday with some friends, this

WAS NOT sitting at the table just across the way from us steady munching a an 8pc nugget with a fruit bowl for the side item.

Happy Monday!

TAG...you're it!!!

In the world of blogging, being tagged means that one of your blogging buddies has petitioned you to participate in an ongoing blog post and you have the responsibility of "paying it forward" and inviting several of your blogging buddies to do the same.

My new dear Southern belle of a friend, Pam, at Twenty Little Piggies tagged me. The idea behind this tag is to find out more about our blogging buddies by having them list/describe/fabricate 20 random things about themselves that we don't otherwise know from reading their blog.

Here are the official rules:

create a list of 20 random things about yourself, link back to the blog that tagged you, tag 20 (though, I will be revising this to 10) new folks by linking to them in your post, then leave a comment on each of their blogs letting them know they've been tagged

  1. I am a certified pediatric registered nurse with a bachelors degree (RN, BSN, CPN) and currently work as a nurse for a pediatric sedation team at a Children's Hospital, where I administer anesthetic drugs alongside a physician to anesthetize children for procedures that they could not otherwise tolerate while awake.

  2. I create several posts in advance and then schedule them to post at a later date/time; though I am on the computer daily reading blogs, I do not create posts for my own blog on a daily basis.

  3. I sleep with my cell phone on my bedside table. There's something wrong with that, I just know it...

Due to complications during pregnancy with my second son, my husband and I were told that he had a less than 3% chance of survival. Following 20 weeks of bedrest, we now have a healthy (PRAISE THE LORD) 2 year old son.

  • My first son was born prematurely, weighing 4 lbs. 4 ozs. and came home from the hospital 2 weeks later weighing only 3 lbs. 9 ozs.

  • Before blogging, I was addicted to reality television; since taking up blogging this past summer, I now rarely watch the TV at all.

  • I do enjoy potatoes in any way, shape, or form. I will eat them on a rare occasion, never mashed!

  • My husband and I met on a blind date and have been together ever since.

  • I was raised within 10 miles of all four of my grandparents and believe it played a part in who I am today. Those memories are immeasurable.

  • My parents are still married....32 years and counting!

  • I have a brother....21 months younger than I. We are and have always been, the best of friends. BTW..he's tall, handsome, independent, and single!

  • I am about to jump, head-first, into the world of comparison shopping and coupon-clipping.

  • I have never been to DisneyWorld.

  • I do not secretly wish that I was a stay-at-home-mom. I have no problem admitting that I am no where near tough enough for that job.

  • I was an avid aerobics instructor throughout college (2xs/day 5days/week); though, I swear you wouldn't know it now.

  • I have administered CPR to three complete strangers in my life. That is bizarre and unstatistical.

  • I really, really like dressing my boys alike, though THEY are just about over it.

  • When I was a child, I was so allergic to poison ivy/oak/sumac that I was once hospitalized for 7+ days for a single incidence. During that hospitalization; I was administered high-dose steroids, which in turn made me gain 15+ pounds in one week.

  • I am a Roman Catholic.

  • My engagement ring and wedding band were my grandmothers. The ring that I wear on my right hand is an antique-inspired filigree white gold .63 carat diamond that I WON at a bar in college.

  • Here's my tagees:

    1. Courtney @ Courtney and the Boys

    2. Tiffany @ The Boren Life

    3. Michelle @ Circle of Life

    4. Brent @ where laughter lives...The Riggs Family Blog

    5. Lacie @ The Shipman Family

    6. Kristan @ The Cover Family Chaos

    7. Tim @ Fort Thompson

    8. Leanna @ Our Son.....Patrick

    9. Lori @ Simple Shutter

    10. Mandi @ Monistere Maddness

As Pam stated in her 20 Random Things post, do not criticize me or laugh hysterically because bullets aren't aligned and my font isn't correct, this post was time-consuming and for some unexplainable reason.....I couldn't make it work!!
