I Heart {Faces} Tooshies

I  ♥ Faces is having a special We ♥ Tooshies photo competition this week.

During my two {friendly} Christmas photoshoots yesterday, I just so happened to have taken a picture that was:

A.) on of my favorites from both of the shoots

B.) fits nicely into this week’s theme for the I ♥ Faces weekly competition.

Friday Flashback

Friday Flashback was born out of my love of looking back through the vast repertoire of pictures that I have taken (or we have had taken) over the years of my two sons.  To see their growth and development, to stir up past memories, and to remember the accomplishments, excitements, and {some} disappointments of the moments brings a smile to my face.

As the pictures denote, these snapshots are from Thanksgiving afternoon 2007.  Buck-a-roo was 2 1/2 years old and Frank-o was 18 months old.  I believe (judging by the smiling faces), they were taken just after naptime and just before we began to pull out the Christmas decorations.  I loved those shirts!!!

trendy

Do take note that the Vaughn boys have discovered this year’s latest fall trend……..the jeans tucked into your boots look.

I’ll have you know that not everyone can pull off this look so successfully.

trendy lightroom

The purpose of this post, however is twofold; in that, thanks to a wonderful friend of mine…..

I have acquired the wonderful photography editing software, Adobe Lightroom 2.0

WooHoo!!

The pictures above were my 1st attempt at using the software and letme tell ya……it’s not easy-peasy.

I’m pleased {I believe because I know no different} with the end result….tell me what do you think??

Frank-o’s Fashion

I have blogged before about Frank-o’s style all his own.

He’s still keeping it real.

Who else could pull off the chosen-by-him Saturday apparel of the lime green, oversized sleep tee paired with last year’s Easter Sunday, baby blue plaid short shorts and the worn out, almost too small, Georgia workboots to complete the ensemble.

IMG_4206

Or maybe you’d prefer the Ralph Lauren pink cargo shorts alongside the school logo hoodie also rounded out with the same getting too small Georgia workboots and Dad’s Mississippi Braves 3+ year old baseball cap.

IMG_4031

It’s not easy to look this hip! trendy! cool!

It’s Frank-o’s Fashion!

Before you know it, your kid’ll be wanting to wear boots and shorts everyday just like Frank-o!!

jailbirds

 jailbirds

Who can resist footed pajamas on children.  I. Can’t.

So when Buck-a-roo recently told me that he wanted a new pair for the cooler nights, even though Daddy Buck thinks they are entirely too old to wear them, I jumped at the idea and scored two pair from Target (on clearance even)!

Because….. though I am so enjoying the ages that my boys are right now; the introduction to extracurricular activities and sports, the PreK color sheets that come home biweekly, the buckling of themselves into their booster seats, the opportunity to go places diaper bag-less, the upcoming preschool Christmas program, the communication and interactions between the two of them; there remains a small part of me that wishes they would stay my babies for a bit longer.

jailbirds-1

Our two “jailbirds” are growing up; but for the next few months, they’ll wear, what is probably their last pairs of footed PJs, and I’ll enjoy LOVE minute of it.

sneak peek

Though it is still fall, I thought it was time to update my blog header, so consider my new header your sneak peek into our family’s Christmas cards for this year.

I love the holidays.  I love Christmas.  And I love Christmas cards……plotting, planning, photographing, designing, addressing, mailing, and receiving!

Just for old times sake, take a look here at our family Christmas card from last year.

I can’t wait to get our Christmas cards in the mail and I look forward to the excitement of checking the mailbox throughout the days of December.

Just for fun, let’s enjoy some pictures from the “Christmas card photo shoot” that didn’t make the cut for the printed card……

IMG_4111

…..though I still believe they are cute and certainly blog-post worthy!

IMG_4113

And, though our Christmas card pictures involved a minimal amount of trespassing, it was a beautiful sunny day in southern Louisiana and this moss-filled oak tree was the perfect location.

Let the countdown to the holidays begin…….

This week’s picture comes from this time last year {2008} when we had family portraits made by a fabulous local photographer in the antique village (Main Street area) of our town.

Veteran’s Day is a SPECIAL day

“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.” …...Elmer Davis

November 11, Veteran’s Day, is a special day. It is the day that our great country has dedicated to give thanks, show respect, and devote attention to the wonderful veterans that admirably serve our country allowing us the rights, priveleges, and freedoms that we enjoy everyday.

November 11, Veteran’s Day, is an extra-special day in the Vaughn household. It is a day that we say thanks to our dad for serving our country.

IMG_4171

November 11 is also the day that we tell OUR veteran-dad…….Happy Birthday!!!!

We. Love. You.

Sights of {Halloween} Night

IMG_4059

This Halloween, it was the Vaughn Boys to the rescue for trick-or-treat night, as they were dressed in costume as a police officer and a firefighter.

I present to you…….Police Sergeant Buck-a-roo and Fire Chief Frank-o

IMG_4067IMG_4068

For this, the third consecutive year, Daddy Buck pulled our trailer behind his four-wheeler as our boys, as well as, two neighborhood families’ trick-or-treated through our neighborhood.

IMG_4075

The same garage of a house in our neighborhood has been decorated in a somewhat haunted manner each year and for the past two years, Buck-a-roo and Frank-o have left that house screaming and flailing as if they had seen the Chainsaw Massacre himself.

This year, however, we made progress.  Progress as in the difference in a trick-or-treater receiving a yellow-wrapped hard butterscotch and starlight mint or a nicely wrapped versus a tied with ribbon baggie of Snickers, Tootsie Rolls, and Blow Pop!! You know what I’m saying…….big difference, huge strides!!  The two of them actually entered the garage, lingered around a bit, and left excited that they had done it!

IMG_4089IMG_4093

The four of us and our fantastic neighbors had a fabulous night capped off by sausage/hot dogs atop the fire pit grill and the children consuming any and all candy that they could “open for themselves” as declared by me!
