back to the routine tomorrow...

Update: While we were at the pediatrician today, of course, they weighed Harley. He weighed in at 35 pounds. And, of course, Cody decided he needed to be weighed too. He weighed in at 28 1/2 pounds. Cody may very well catch Harley in weight, but NEVER height. Sweet Cody is the shortest kid in his toddler class, though he carries the tallest attitude. Harley is one of the tallest in his preschool class; he is a skeleton of bones, though, because he is the ultimate "picky-eater" and sometimes flat-out refuses to eat.

It has been a long past 7 days with the boys cooped inside without the amenities of modern living and I, for one, and glad that I received two phone calls today notifying me that their preschool/daycare will be OPEN for operation tomorrow!! YEAH!! (did I say that out loud?)

Harley has been running fever since Saturday, so we set out for the pediatrician's office this morning. The verdict--upper respiratory infection and sinusitis. He was given antibiotics and should be fine for school tomorrow. YEAH!! (did I say that out loud, again?)

Though, Harley has been sick, it has not dampened his activity at all. After the pediatrician's office we went to the mall to kill some time before meeting Jack for lunch. We hit the Clinique counter for some new eyeshadow for mom's post-hurricane treat to self, then we played at the indoor play area for about an hour before Jack called.

In thought, lunch seemed like a good idea....in reality, not SO GOOD. The boys were inpatient, tired, and fussy to put it mildly. It was a swift 35 minute lunch and we were headed home for naps after dropping Harley's prescription off at the pharmacy.

Harley just surfaced from his room and has moved to the couch; not sure if he wants to wake from his nap or not. For dinner is (leftover) chili frito pies with a teaspoon of sleep aid Benadryl for ALL members of the family and we are back to our normal routine tomorrow. YEAH!! (yes, I said that out loud!)

We don't wish ill-will on anyone, but I sure wish Hurricane Ike would head west...at least past Cameron Parish, LA so as to miss my dad's fishing camp.

Harley's Motor-Scooter / Cody's new "frim"

The motor-scooter is the result of Harley's engineering. He calls it "tricky"; I call it dangerous ingenius.

YES, that is Cody's finger and YES, that is a super-crazy, two-bodied, two-headed bug that Cody was calling his "frim" (a.k.a. friend) up-until the moment that I accidentally stepped on it squished it with my shoe. And, NO, I am not that close to it--that is the use of some super-duper mega zoom (you think I would be that close to that thing??)!! What the HE** is it??

Friday Night Arcade

Jack is working late tonight and all of our neighborhood friends have gone out of town dodging Hurricane Gustav for the long Labor Day weekend, so I decided I would brave the pizza place/arcade for Friday night entertainment. The boys were good and had a terrific time; Harley most enjoyed the motorcycle ride and Cody was somewhat obsessed with the basketball toss. We left with 25+ trinkets, including a dozen Tootsie Rolls, that I purchased they won with their "tickets".

out of the mouths...

Let me preface this comment with the fact that Jack bought Harley and Cody new watches a couple days ago:
Me: "Harley, what time is it?"
Harley: (as he opens the flip-face to his hot wheels watch and replies with such certainty) "9 dollars!!"

Like Father, Like Son...

(this morning as Jack is getting dressed for work...)

Harley: "Daddy, when I grow up and my hair gets white and gray like yours, I'm gonna shave my head just like you do, OK?"

Gotta love the brutal honesty of a 3 year old!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Let the Hurricane Gustav preparations begin...

I was notified today at work that I have been assigned to the hurricane recovery team, which is the team of medical pediatric first responders assigned to the 24-48 hour post hurricane landfall hospital response. GREAT!! They also make it a point to threaten you remind you that your job and ultimately your license is on the line should you not respond when called upon. SIGH!! GREAT!! Apparently the hospital has been notified by "the notifiers" (not sure which governing body of people this might be) of a possible "direct hit" on New Orleans of hurricane 3+ early next week.

Jack spent the afternoon re-fueling the generator that we purchased in the days following Hurricane Katrina and guaranteed that it would start. I will stock up on non-perishable supplies this weekend just in case. I suppose you can never be TOO prepared.

What will I do if we have no electricity and I can't blog!?!

Out of the mouths....

Harley: "Mommy, where is God and Jesus?"

Me: "In heaven"

Harley: "No, Mommy, that's not right!"

Me: "Really, where are they then?"

Harley: "God is in heaven and Jesus is on the cross because that's where he died...that's right Mommy!!"

Kids (in all their glory)

Stinky, sweaty, runny-nosed, food-covered faces, bruised bodies, filthy-clothed neighborhood friends;but, oh so blue-eyed, smling, laughing, running, jumping, and having a blast!!

Now I Said My ABCs.....

**pause the music player at the bottom of the page to hear the video clips**

Enjoy this video clip of Cody reciting his ABCs
(Note the Bob the Builder goggles):

And, here's the translation per Harley
(note the "bisor", a.k.a. visor):

Out of the mouths of our 2 & 3 y/o's

this is the conversation that Harley and I had in the truck not too long ago:

Harley: {whining} "Mom, I have somephin on my tooth"
Me: "What is it?"
Harley: "Somephin"
Me: "Ok, like what?" {dumbfounded}
Harley: "A booger!!!"
Me: {laughing} "How did that get there?"
Harley: "I ate it and it got stuck on my tooth...get it off Mommy {screaming}!!!"
Me: {laughing hysterically....as I look into his mouth to see if I can see it} "Your daddy will help you brush your teeth when we get home" (whhewww! got out of that one)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
this is a typical conversation that ensues with Cody at bedtime after at least three rounds of hugs and kisses and the lights go out:

Cody: " 'nother kiss Mommy"
Me: "No Cody, we will have another kiss in the morning"
Cody: " 'nother hug big, tight Mommy"
Me: "No Cody, we will have another hug in the morning"
Cody: {sitting up now} " 'more juice (which really means soymilk) Mommy"
Me: "No Cody, we will have more milk in the morning"
Cody: {as he gathers up 5 or 6 of his animals} "These for Daddy"
Me: "Daddy is at work(/showering/doing chores)" {we take turns laying with them at night}
Cody: "Need Daddy"

do you get the idea??....this could go on for at least 10-15 minutes. i have to keep from laughing myself while it is happening!!

Let the "school-ing" begin

Today was Harley's first day of Pre-K 3. By this morning he had already memorized the Bible verse that we recieved yesterday at Open House, "In the Beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth". He was excited and promised that he would be good.

These pictures were taken at Open House yesterday...

And this is just before leaving for his first day this morning. He insisted on wearing his new school t-shirt that we got yesterday as well.

*note the large blue goose-egg in the middle of his forehead that he got when he jumped into my headboard yesterday while he and Cody were playing the "Pow..Pow" game on my bed after I told them time and time again that someone was going to get hurt; but what do I know???

Uh-Oh Daddy-O

Because every chaotic event within our family is post-worthy, I thought I would share these photos with you all. However, because I am the only one making the postings on our family blog, I am sure I won't live this down for quite some time...

Without the explanantion coming straight from my mouth, I am quite certain you can put two and two together from the pictures above and the pictures below...

It's left up to your imagination to decide whether the mishap in our front yard was the result of the lawn mower or the kiddie four-wheeler...

DSR "Group-ee" - Take 2

David St. Romain (see the previous blog for who he is...) played again at the Baton Rouge Airport today for their 60th anniversary celebration; it was a family-friendly atomosphere and we were able to take the boys. Seems that our boys may be "rock stars" at heart...we were positioned on the front row and Jack and I were somewhat nervous that it might be too LOUD for them. Not so...they "rocked" out the entire time!!
